Thorne, John Henry

BORN HULL 1894. A LABBOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 119 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR. ENLISTED SUNDERLAND, ON 08/09/1914. TRAINED AT HALTON PARK. SERVED WITH THE 14TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. REPORTED WOUNDED AND THEN KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/09/1915, AGED 21. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR NE YEAR AND 20 DAYS. IS COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM THORNE. SISTER ANNIE & FAMILY LIVED SUNDERLAND.
