BORN HULL 1891. HULL PAL. SON OF EDWARD MAWER & MARTHA REBECCA GREEN, 187 ELLA STREET. POST OFFICE CLERK. KILLED IN ACTION ON 16/08/1916, AGED 25. HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2. HIS BROTHER THOMAS HERBERT GREEN WAS ALSO KILLED IN 1917.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE EDWARD GREEN 12/938. Born in 1891, Edward lived with his wife Sarah at 4 Elizes Place, Walker Street, Hull. A Labourer by trade, he enlisted at City Hall on 5th October 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 'The Sportsmen', 3rd Hull Pals. Edward was killed in action on 16th August 1916 and is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery; he was 25 years old.
