Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE THOMAS NEWSON 12/1146. Born in Hull and enlisted at City Hall joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 'The Sportsmen', 3rd Hull Pals. Details on Thomas are sketchy at best, but after serving in Egypt he landed in France on March 8th 1916 catching the train north from Marseilles to Armentieres and entering the trenches for the first time later that month. Thomas was killed in action on 17th August 1916 and buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery.
